Timber Management Helps Ensure Future Revenue

The timber at Wild Magnolia Plantation has been under the supervision of Jim Branch with Branch Timberlands of Madison, Georgia. Jim has been providing timberland investment and management services for over 10 years and was integral in creating  a timber management plan.

The plantation has 85 acres of 17-year-old loblolly planted pine. Loblolly is the primary, and most sought after, species of pine planted in the Piedmont region of Georgia. 37 of the 85 acres of planted pine average 150 trees to the acre. While the remaining 48 acres average 110 trees to the acre. This is to maximize growth while ensuring future revenue streams. In 2008, all the planted pine was sprayed to help control under story growth. Prescribed burning was also implemented in both 2008 and 2009. The use of both of these methods helps control the under story growth, both herbaceous and woody. By controlling these elements, there is less competition for nutrients, water and sunlight. This maximizes the growth potential for the timberland.
